Private Istanbul Tour
Istanbul Old City Tour
See the great icons of empires at your own pace, with the stories behind each one.
The historic peninsula is where Constantinople became Istanbul — the capital of empires, and still the city's beating heart. On this private tour your licensed guide brings it to life, threading together Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar with the history, legends and human stories that the guidebooks leave out.
Our Old City tour normally covers Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar. We also give you a choice: you can visit either Topkapi Palace or the Basilica Cistern. The choice between the Topkapi Palace and the Basilica Cistern is entirely yours. However, if you are not particularly interested in history museums, or if you are travelling with children or teenagers, we would recommend visiting the Basilica Cistern instead.
While Topkapi Palace is a traditional museum featuring palace collections and historical exhibitions, the Basilica Cistern offers a unique experience. Built in the 6th century, it is an impressive underground water reservoir with a distinctive atmosphere that sets it apart from a typical museum visit.

Frequently Asked
Are entrance fees included?
Yes. Entrance fees are included in the quoted price, and we will list exactly what is included with your itinerary.
Is there a dress code in Istanbul (Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque)?
Yes. A dress code applies when visiting places of worship, including Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Shorts above the knee and sleeveless tops are not permitted: both men and women should have their knees and shoulders covered. Women also need a headscarf at religious sites, so please bring a light scarf if you can. If you do not have one, just let us know and we can provide a scarf during your visit.
How long is the Old City tour?
It usually takes around 5 to 6 hours, depending on the itinerary you choose. We will gently adjust the pace to your group, so the day always feels relaxed and never rushed.
Is this tour suitable for seniors or slower walkers?
Yes. We can adjust the itinerary, walking distance and pace to accommodate mobility needs. Please let us know in advance so we can design the most comfortable route for you.
Can we customise which sites we visit?
Absolutely. The Old City Tour is a starting point — swap in the Spice Bazaar, a mosque, or a viewpoint, and we will reshape the day around you.
